Forgetting

Do you ever have moments of forgetting?  Forgetting where you put your keys as you’re trying to fly out the door, forgetting where you put your phone,  forgetting you had an important appointment and now you’re late, and my favorite,  forgetting what you walked into the room for?   Boy, I do!

OH. MY. GOODNESS!

It seems like “forgetting” is a daily thing for this chick – lol

While those moments of forgetting can be both annoying and frustrating, and sometimes even funny, nothing is more heartbreaking to Christ than when we forget who we are in Him.  And, likewise, forgetting that we do have a purpose and a calling.

Forgetting who we are can be such a tripping hazard, can’t it? Even dangerous on some levels. I mean, for me, it causes me to shrink back with timidity, fear, and an overall feeling of “being in the way” of pretty much everything and everyone around me. And when that happens, I don’t feel good about myself and I definitely am not walking or living out my purpose.   It can also affect our relationships with our spouses, friends, family, and co-workers in such way that can ultimately be damaging.

It appears that in my life forgetting where my  keys are is seemingly more easily remedied then when I forget who I am in Christ and what I am created for.  It’s easier for me to turn my entire house upside down looking for my keys – and mind you, I am doing it with great authority and determination than it seems to be for me to take a moment and seek God – with that same authority and determination- and allow Him to pour in to me and remind me who I am in Him and through Him.  That’s sad, really – especially when I  really sit and think about it. But it’s also a reality.

The bible says in 1 Peter 2:9 –

“9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests,[a] a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”

Did you read that? I mean, really read it? Is it soaking in to your heart? Your mind?

YOU (we) are chosen!!

YOU (we) are royal priests!!

YOU (we) are GODS VERY OWN possession!!

My heart is leaping for joy at this very moment as I let that soak in.  I mean, if I wasn’t typing right now, I’d be doing my happy dance all over my office, and lets just say, it’d be a par-tay up in here!!  How awesome is it that God himself CHOSE us, calls us ROYAL, and HIS VERY OWN!

WOW!

And not only that, but He has called YOU (us) out of the darkness and into HIS wonderful light!

I mean WOW!  Are you “hearing” this?   Are you owning it?  Are you holding your head up high?  I mean, you are royalty and Gods very own…you are His chosen child.  We were not meant to forget who we are in Christ as He has made sure to express to us WHO we are through His word.

As each new day begins and ends, I’d like to encourage you to walk confidently in WHO you ARE in CHRIST.  Please don’t beat yourself up for an occasional “forgetful” moment, but rather, chat it up with Christ and ask Him to remind you of WHO you are.
